About Sherrod Deputy
|
|
|
Professional
Background
I have
been an
advocate
for
individuals
and
their
conflicts
since
1981
when I
co-founded
the
Victim-Witness
Program
for
Elkhart
County,
Indiana.
In
association
with the
Elkhart
County
Prosecuting
Attorney's
Office,
my job
was to
prepare
witnesses
to
testify
at
trial.
This
required
that I
be an
active
listener,
an
empathic
voice
for the
witness,
as well
as a
coach
for the
victim
who most
likely
had
never
been
exposed
to the
judicial
system.
In
addition,
I have
been a
litigation
assistant
preparing
and
executing
strategic
formats
for both
civil
and
criminal
matters.
As of
1997, I
have
been
sole
proprietor
of my
mediation
practice,
using
conflict
resolution
methods
to
resolve
problematic
issues.
I am now
licensed
in both
Arizona
and
Indiana.
Mediation
Experience
My
mediation
experience
includes
approximately
150
small
claims
mediations.
I also
have
experience
in
Personal
Injury
mediation.
I
continue
to
mediate
Dissolution's,
Post
Dissolution
Matters,
as well
as
Custody
Parenting-Time
conflicts.
I am an
approved
mediator
for the
Juvenile
Courts.
For
those
individuals
contemplating
filing
suit, I
find
Pre-suit
Mediation
to be a
highly
valuable
tool.
The
process
allows
parties
to
realistically
test
their
positions
before
taking
the
formal
steps to
litigate.
My
experience
has been
that
after
participating
in
mediation,
parties
choose
not to
litigate
but
instead,
resolve
their
differences
through
mediation.
It
proves
to be
more
timely
and cost
effective
versus
the
often
long
process
of
litigation.
In the
state of
Arizona,
I focus
on
Family
Mediation/Dissolution,
Custody
Matters,
Visitation,
Eldercare,
as well
as,
Conflicts
in the
Workplace.
Style
of
Mediation
My past
experience
with the
court
system
has
provided
me with
the
knowledge
to know
and see
first
hand
that
justice
does not
always
prevail,
nor does
it move
swiftly
along.
With
this in
mind, I
can
educate
parties
on the
practicality
of
resolving
their
own
conflicts
through
mediation.
This
methodology
far
surpasses
the
adversarial
process
of
win/lose.
My
passionate
belief
is that
mediation
manages
and
resolves
conflict
in a
more
efficient
and
personally
satisfying
manner.
Consequently,
I urge
participants
to be
open to
all
possibilities
for
resolution
that may
be in
their
best
interests.
Their
reward
will be
a result
created
by them.
Personal
Values
in
Mediation
Problems
do not
resolve
by
themselves.
Mediation
allows
each
party to
chart
his own
course
of
action.
They
choose
the
guidelines
for
resolution;
therefore,
they
create
the
results.
If they
create
the
agreement,
statistics
show
that
they
have a
greater
chance
to abide
by those
guidelines
as
opposed
to a
judge
pronouncing
it upon
them.
